If you ask anyone about Italian destinations on their bucket list, the Amalfi Coast is right up there.
And not without good reason. Truly iconic Italian villages, clinging to steep coastlines over the Mediterranean Sea, glamour and fashion oozing from every possible pore, insane driving on tiny, dangerous roads, this region exudes everything about being Italian other than an insane passion for football.
Each village of this stretch of coastline is just as stunning as the other. The views of traditional architecture, ancient cliffs and azure blue sea are jaw-dropping. The sensation of mingling with other tourists down the narrow alleyways and streets to seemingly endless restaurants, bars and markets is really quite something.
Yet this classical Italian region is not at all out of reach and a visit here needn't burn a whole in your bank account. Let us tell you how to get a 'pizza' the action without spending a fortune.

How to get there
The nearest airport is in Naples, which has multiple direct flights from several airports in the UK. Since the Amalfi Coast is such an iconic destination, accommodation can be expensive, so staying at a transport hub like Sorrento (also an iconic location) is much better.

How we did it
We bought a flights, hotel and transfers package from TUI, leaving from Glasgow. This provided us with onward transport to the La Meridiana Hotel in Sorrento, which is a short walk from the bus station and Sorrento city centre.
It is possible to get tour packages for the Amalfi Coast, but they can be expensive. Instead, we walked to the bus station (in front of the train station) and used Sita Sud Transporti buses to visit the Amalfi Coast.

Our Top Tips
Do not drive on the Amalfi Coast. Trust us: it will take you all of five minutes on the bus along the coast to see why.
Get to the bus station in Naples early as long queues form. This is a very popular destination and seats on the bus are not bookable.
For the best overlooking views of the Amalfi coast, take the bus to Amalfi, and then Amalfi to Ravello, then walk down the thousand steps to Atrani.
